Budget

P3 – Budget & Revenue

Budget & Revenue

Our shows budget does not include things like equipment for the show or hiring a studio to use because those things are paid for by the investors of our radio show Pop Culture Morning.

However the shows budget would include licensing for music that would be used on the show and you have to pay the owner of the music quite a lot of money to use their music. For background music which is what is mainly used on Radio shows it would cost no higher than £400 and no less than £150 for one song. So if we were to have a 20 song playlist it would cost between £3,000 and £8,000 depending on the artist because artists like Drake would want more money than someone like George Ezra so it really depends on the music we use and who sings it. A local radio station like ours would usually pay around £5 for an average 3m30s song and considering we would usually play 3 songs every show and having 3 shows a week we would spend roughly £180 a month.

Another thing that would be included in the shows budget would be  any fees for people who we manage to get on the show as a guest. For example if we were to get someone that we know personally on the show to be interviewed  then they might not want to be paid that much or to not even be paid but someone like Robert Downey JR would probably want to be paid quite a lot for appearing on the show. It would all depend on the person that we interview on the show so there is no real estimate of how much we would be paying someone to appear on our radio show. A source said that each guest gets paid a minimum of £66 an appearance depending on how popular the show and guest is.

The budget would also include wages for the radio team but our show would not include that because our team is not doing this radio show for the money but instead our doing it as part of a college project so we will not be getting paid. But if we were to pay the radio team wages it would depend on the role, for example a broadcast journalist would earn between £18,000 and £41,000 a year, a  radio producer can earn between £17,000 and £39,000 a year, a presenter usually gets paid depending on how much they do on each show but on average a presenter would earn between £12,000 and £50,000 a year depending on the popularity of the show, a news reader/ news reporter would earn between £15,000 and £34,000 a year again depending on the size of the show, a radio content producer would earn between £18,000 and £40,000 a year, a news producer would earn between £24,000 and £55,000 a year. All information was found at https://www.payscale.com/research/UK/Job.

Another thing that would be included in the budget would be expenses for the content team mainly for when they go out in public to get content for the show and those expenses would include things like food for everyone working, accommodation if there is a long stay at a location far away from the radio’s headquarters  and also travel money so things like petrol. There would also be expenses for the news team if they were to go out and ask the public questions about the news which is what we did but we did not travel far so there was no costs. The average price for unleaded petrol in the UK is 127.3p per litre, diesel has an average of 130.2p and super unleaded is 137.9p but it all depends on how much our content team go out to collect content and how far they go. Accommodation depends on where the content team decide to say but the average price for a one night stay in the UK is between £75 and £135 but it all depends on the area and the hotel company, the content team will probably go out once every two weeks to collect content. And food and drink depends on what the content team decide to get.

  1. running order needs to be more detailed with timings.

Proposed scheduling time is missing or not made clear

The first criteria for p3 requires you to discuss the show/broadcaster...see brief for details.
